PERFORMANCES

November 13, 14, & 15    Ulysse and Dancers presents ACROSS THE WATERS

8:00pm
ECA Arts Hall
55 Audubon St. (corner of Orange and Audubon St.)
New Haven

Identity has always been at the forefront of Nazorine Ulysse-Paglia’s mind. Ms. Ulysse-Paglia (Ulysse and Dancers Company’s Artistic Director and ACES Educational Center for the Arts dance faculty member) has often said “Haiti is my mother and America is my father.” Identity is at the center of her most recent work, Across the Waters. This piece evolved out of her need to explore the nuances of resistance and release in family relationships and intercultural connections that have shaped and defined her. She has been working on Across the Waters, an artistic work of contemporary Haitian choreography, for 16 months. Ultimately, this piece is a collage of moments—like paintings in a gallery—that explores unforgettable, defining experiences.

Ulysse and Dancers Company, based in New Haven, CT, includes members Lindsey Bauer, Jennifer Brubacher, Kellie Lynch, Luis Rodriguez, Kate Seethaler, and Mnikesa Whitaker. Ticket Reservations: 203-393-5030. Admission: $15.00, Seniors and Students $5.00

February 20 & 21, 2009    Pilobolus

8:00pm
Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts
166 Capitol Ave., Hartford, CT

Pilobolus began at a Dartmouth College dance class in 1971. What emerged was a collaborative choreographic process and a unique weight-sharing approach to partnering that gave the young company a non-traditional but powerful new set of skills with which to make dances. The group was immediately acclaimed for its startling mix of humor and invention and Pilobolus soon became a self-sufficient organization, its members choreographing, dancing, managing, and publicizing their own programs. Cost: $29-$46. For tickets and additional information, call The Bushnell Box Office at 860-987-5900.
