August 2009
Dear Member of Connecticut’s Dance Community,This is a friendly reminder to join or renew your membership to CONNECTICUT DANCE ALLIANCE for 2009-2010.
Thanks to many of you, CDA has enjoyed another successful year organizing and strengthening the Connecticut dance community and increasing the awareness and presence of dance in our state. The addition of our e-newsletter “cda newslinks” and an updated website allows us to better serve the dance community. And you may now find us on Facebook to gain more information about all that we do. We have also enhanced a number of our most popular events and increased our membership to the highest level it has been in years. We are thrilled to announce our events for the next six months.
Our annual CDA Distinguished Achievement Awards Ceremony will honor Kathy Borteck Gersten, Associate Artistic Director of Judy Dworin Performance Project and Coordinator of Moving Matters! Residencies; Catherine J. Fellows, Professor of Dance, Dance Program Director, Central CT State University; and Olivia Sabulao Ilano-Davis, Artistic Director of Spectrum in Motion Dance Theater Ensemble and Stretching for Life Dance Program, Hartford. The Awards Event with reception, ceremony and performance will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2009, 5:30-7:30pm at the Handel Performing Arts Center, University of Hartford.
The Educators’ Forum: American Modern Dance Heritage will be held at Naugatuck Valley Community College on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 and will include workshops with former Limon Company dancer Paul Dennis (TBD); former director of the Graham School, Marnie Wood; a Sokolow repertory class with Suellen Haag and a discussion of Merce Cunningham’s choreographic process with Susan Matheke. The event also includes lunch, viewing archival dance material and informal networking
And, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Dance will return to the Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven on January 18, 2010. “All that Jazz – historical development of Jazz Dance” will include master classes in West African, vintage jazz, modern jazz and much more.
As you can see we have an exciting six months ahead of us (with more to come) and we very much hope you will be a part of it. Send in your dues today and renew your commitment to supporting dance in Connecticut.
Please remember we have a new membership schedule. Your yearly membership will be valid for one year from the date that your subscription is received.
Thank you again for your membership and your support!
